Baggio Platinum & Gold coffees are the finest quality Arabica coffees from José Astor Baggio’s coffee plantation at Fazenda Pindaibas in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This family owned plantation is located at an altitude of about 3,000 feet in Brazil’s premiere coffee growing region for Arabica coffees. The Baggio family tradition of growing coffee dates back to 1886 when they emigrated from Italy.
The Harvest
The timing of harvesting is crucial to maximize the quantity of ripe red cherry beans which produce Gourmet (Platinum) and Premium (Gold) quality coffees. The cherry beans are hand picked by experienced coffee farmers that have lived and worked at the plantation for many years and bring an extraordinary passion for producing the very best.
Processing the Beans
As soon as the best ripe red cherry beans are picked, they are hauled to the processing area for cleaning. The raw coffee beans are first washed with gushing spring water and then spread on terraces in thin layers for natural sun drying. The beans are turned over by hand multiple times a day until they achieve an optimal condition of readiness. Finally the coffee beans are sorted by size (screen size) and packed for shipment in the signature 132 pound burlap coffee bags. The coffees are shipped out of the famous Port of Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Currently, Italy is the largest consumer of this coffee but the special relationship between RONA and the Baggio family has allowed us to share these amazing coffees in the U.S.
The Roast
RONA imports the finest Baggio Brazilian coffees and passionately roasts these coffees per time honored traditions to extract the natural fragrance and rich body and taste.
Baggios Gold
This signature coffee is dark roasted to extract the natural fragrance and accentuate the rich intense body and flavor.
Baggios Platinum
This ultra premium coffee is medium roasted to accentuate the mild smooth flavor, rich medium body, complex intense aroma and hint of dry spiceness and sweetness.
